Xochimilco

"Place of Flowers"

Activity description

Departure to Xochimilco, one of the city's sixteen boroughs. The district is located in the southeastern part of the city and has an identity separate from the historic centre of Mexico City, due to its historical separation from that city for most of its history.

Xochimilco is best known for its canals, remnants of what was once an extensive lake and canal system that connected most of the settlements of the Valley of Mexico. These canals, together with artificial islands called chinampas, draw tourists and other residents of the city to ride colourful gondola-like boats called "trajineras" along the 90 kilometres of canals.

This canal and chinampa system, as a vestige of the region's pre-Hispanic past, has made Xochimilco a World Heritage Site.

 The tour includes

  • Transport in Sprinter tourist vans
  • 2 trajineras for 3 hours
  • 5 quesadillas per person prepared on the spot to each person's taste
  • Guacamoles and snacks
  • 1 esquite per person
  • 1 elote per person
  • 3 beers per person
  • 3 aguas frescas or soft drinks per person

Cost: $2,000 MXN ($115 USD)
